Details of Imogin's passing:
It is with great sadness that the ACLT has to inform the general public that little Imogin Appiah passed away peacefully at home with her Mother and Step-Father by her side during the early hours of Saturday 23rd January 2010. The 7 year old with the beautiful smile and lovely disarming charm is now at peace from the long suffering battle against ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia). Imogin was one of the most bravest and courageous individuals any of us are likely to meet in our lifetime. Her maturity was way beyond her years and she ALWAYS was thinking about others in need by imploring all of us to register as Bone Marrow donors and to give blood.
To her Mum, Sheila, 'she meant the world to me. I honour her and look upon her with the greatest of love and respect. She is and always will be a fighter. The love that I have for my beautiful daughter is incredibly deep and she will always be my strength and guidance’.
The recent Cord Blood transplant that she had gave her a chance of survival, but it was too late and unfortunately the Leukaemia came back. If a matched unrelated Bone Marrow donor had been found earlier, then possibly the chances of Imogin surviving and beating Leukaemia would have been more favourable. The last months consisted of a mixture of numerous hospital visits for treatment alongside going to Disneyland Paris and other fun filled trips. Imogin lived her short but influential life to the full as she touched our hearts and inspired so many people to come forward and give blood. Sheila has asked the ACLT to continue the battle in registering new donors as potential lifesavers.
"I want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who registered, please, remain on the register of potential donors, you may be able to save someone else's life. Thank you to the Royal Marsden and St George’s hospital for looking after Imogin. Thank You to the News Media for highlighting Imogin’s story. Sheila has also asked that flowers are NOT to be sent to the family, but instead for financial donations to made out to the ACLT charity.
The final word belongs to Imogin Appiah, who on the 28th December 09 wrote these words from her sick bed. The words are written in exactly the same way Imogin (7 years of age) wrote them.
