Four year old Oliver Diaz-Mills has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), he needs to have a lifesaving bone marrow transplant by the end of his grueling chemotherapy treatment later this summer in 2010
However, as Oliver is mixed race and his father has an unusual tissue type, doctors have not yet found a matching donor to save Oliver’s life
His family are desperately urging people to join the bone marrow register, especially those of a similar heritage to Oliver (mixed North European and African-Caribbean / Hispanic), to see if they could be his match
Oliver’s mother is North European in descent and his father is mixed African-Caribbean / Hispanic
Oliver’s mum, Laura, 31, said: “We have been amazed at Oliver’s resilience – he is so strong and has coped so well. The treatment wipes him out but when he bounces back he is smiling and laughing. He desperately needs a bone marrow transplant. Please, please do join the Anthony Nolan register or the National Blood Service (British Bone Marrow Register). If you're not a match for Oliver you could save someone else’s life, who like Oliver, desperately needs a bone marrow transplant”
Laura and Oliver’s father, Francis from Derbyshire, take it in turns to stay with him and look after Oliver’s brother Finlay, three as well
The Anthony Nolan Trust is holding a donor recruitment session for Oliver at Rice Lane Nursery and Infants School in Walton, L9 3AE on Friday 2nd July between 3.30pm and 7.30pm
Anyone aged 18-40 and in good health can join the Anthony Nolan Register
Anyone aged 18-49 and in good health can join the NBS, British Bone Marrow Register
