My name is Jenny Wilkinson and I am just 44 years of age.
I have been diagnosed with leukaemia and the only treatment to help save my life is a Bone Marrow Transplant.
I was diagnosed with the disease in May 2009 and I am publicising my story in a bid to find a match.
After three unsuccessful courses of chemotherapy, I took part in trials of a new drug, which it is hoped will put me in remission. However, I was forced to abandon the trial after it left me desperately ill.
Despite this, I have recovered and am again taking the drug. If it succeeds in putting me in remission then I will be ready for a transplant.
Due to my Chinese background, I was shocked to find out the odds of finding a suitable donor worldwide is 1 in 100,000.
I was shocked to find out that, due to my background, the odds of finding a suitable donor are much worse than if I was a Caucasian patient. Matches are usually found from within the same ethnic community as the patient.
This is the chance for someone to make a profound difference to someone's life.
If you are able to help and/or you may know of others who maybe interested in being a donor; my parents are both Chinese in origin. If you are between 18-49 years of age please call the ACLT office to join the register and potentially save my life. If you don’t match me you could match someone else and save their life.
Donating is a simple procedure and does not require surgery.
Please could you pass this appeal to anyone you know who is of Chinese origin who could be my life saver! Thank You.
