Every year in the UK 27,000 adults & children are diagnosed with leukaemia or other related bone marrow disorders.
For many of these patients a bone marrow transplant represents the only possible long-term cure. Without an unrelated bone marrow transplant they may die and many more donors are urgently needed.
6-year-old Keano Klein suffers from a rare disease called DD KOSTMANNS SYNDROME & S.C.N SEVERE CONGENITAL NEUTROPHENIA and unless he finds bone marrow match – his life expectancy is extremely short.
Keano, who is originally from Zimbabwe, is mixed race thus making it very difficult to find a donor as the registers currently suffer from a massive shortage of mixed race people. Keano’s mum, Chantelle Moore has travelled all over Southern Africa and Europe desperately trying to find assistance for her only son. Chantelle who is now based in Kettering is frantic with worry, as she just wants her son to have a chance at life as her only child.
Keano has already had over 7 Operations and treatment in his young life, which has left him very weak and susceptible to infections of the lungs and liver and scared for life. Local Milton Keynes’ mums say - the best chance of finding a match for a patient such as Keano is from a donor from the same ethnic background, but minority ethnic groups are not well represented on the register and that's why we wanted to put on a session like this to encourage people in the local community to come out and support this campaign.
“You never know whose life you can save”.
If you would like to join the bone marrow register to help Keano and the many thousands of people who are searching for a bone marrow match world wide, then please click here to visit our Clinics page to check the dates of our next recruitment clinic. Thank You.
