ACLT

My Story by Volunteer - Carmen Sobande

The loss of a close friend to Cancer started my jouney

My Story by Volunteer - Carmen Sobande

After losing a close friend in 2006 as a result of Hodgkins Lymphoma I wanted to do something which would help prevent others from experiencing the same pain and grief.

When deciding where to direct my energies, I intuitively knew the ACLT was the charity for me. The overwhelming odds facing Black & Mixed Race people who need a bone marrow transplant desperately needs readdressing and the fact the ACLT aims to do just that hugely appealed to me. Furthermore, the fact the ACLT is a home grown charity founded by 2 ordinary individuals initially out of a need to find a donor for a much loved family member but continued out of pure selfless desire to help others, really inspired me.

Bev & Orin's passion and dedication is infectious and whenever I volunteer at a registration drive I come away feeling as though I am contributing towards something really special. I am deeply proud to be part of the ACLT family and although I realise I can never bring my friend back, I know that by volunteering with the ACLT I am helping to save the life of someone else- every donor is a potential life saver!

Best wishes

Carmen Sobande
